    No matter what I do it still fails. I would love to just enable ssl but the main part of the site just fails with redirect loop

    this is what htaccess shows :

    # BEGIN rlrssslReallySimpleSSL rsssl_version[2.4.1]
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
    </IfModule>
    # END rlrssslReallySimpleSSL

    the blog site itself functions just no the admin/dashboard only when I disable plugin

    This sounds like the $_SERVER[“HTTPS”] = “on” is not set. WordPress needs this to work properly. Really Simple SSL tries to insert this when needed, so you can check if this is already inserted.

    If not, you can try adding
    $_SERVER["HTTPS"] = "on"
    To your wp-config.php.
