having scanned my site and cleared up all the content issues I have opened the configuration panel prior to activating SSL.

    I was given this error:

The native WordPress function is_ssl() returned false

Where can I find this function, and how do I fix it?

    Hi Martyn,

Not to worry, on http, it should return false, on https it should return true.

This function should only return true when the website is actually loaded over https. On some servers, this function does not return true when on SSL, causing severe issues in WordPress. Really Simple SSL will fix these issues, but this function is there as confirmation that it’s working as expected.

Let me know if you have any questions!

So should I put it on Https? I mean, it gave me a warning when I tried…like it’s a bad thing.

    This is very confusing…

    Hi Laurel,

in most cases the WordPress function is_ssl() will return true when the site is loaded over https://; you don’t have to make any changes directly to this function.

What kind of warning did you see and what did you do exactly to see that warning? Usually when there’s an issue with the certificate the site will load with a red cross, indicating something is wrong.

If you can provide me with your site address I can likely give you more information about what to do.
