    Here is the debug – I see that there is no server variable being passed… and I read through the forums, links and questions – have had tech support from Bluehost working on it for 2 days and no resolve. It’s strange as it seems intermittent… Like it works sometimes and then sometimes it doesnt redirect at all (no https) and then sometomes its too many redirects… tried the 222.sxdi.org and sxdi.org versions same results. Tested with tools.pingdom.com and googlessite checker – it shows the redirects and errors I just cant figure out how to solve it… Here are the debug output…

    building domain list for multisite…
    adding: https://sxdi.org
    ** Detecting configuration **
    plugin version: 2.3.9
    Already on SSL, start detecting configuration
    No server variable detected
    ssl type: LOADBALANCER
    — force ssl: FALSE
    Check for Mixed Content detection failed
    ** Configuring SSL **
    testing htaccess rules…
    htaccess rules tested successfully.
    checking if .htaccess can or should be edited…
    rules already added in .htaccess.
    converting siteurl and homeurl to https

    Here is my htaccess

    # BEGIN rlrssslReallySimpleSSL rsssl_version[2.3.9]
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
    </IfModule>
    # END rlrssslReallySimpleSSL
    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    Your setup looks good. On pingdom I see the .htaccess redirect, but that is what you want: redirect all trafic from http to https. For a visitor who clicks on a http:// link that means a redirect.

    Currently I can’t see any issues. Does your browser give a too many redirects error?

    Did you clear caching in browser, WordPress plugins, any CDN you might use?

    In this case this is the server variable: HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto.

    If the cause were that your server doesn’t pass a server variable, this line:

    RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]

    just wouldn’t have any effect, but would not cause a too many redirects.

    To find out what the issue is, you’ll have to track down in what specific situation the issue occurs:

    Does it occur for all links (domain.com/page1, domain.com, domain.com/page2)
    Does it occur in specific browsers only? Or only on specific devices? Safari, android, etc.
