    Hello,

I just installed the plugin and got the message:

“Your .htaccess does not contain the Really Simple SSL redirect to https, and could not be written, so a javascript redirect is currently added. For SEO purposes it is advisable to use .htaccess redirects. Set the .htaccess file to writable and visit the settings page to write it again, or copy the code lines from the settings page. View settings page.

    SSL activated! ”

But the site still didn’t show SSL and now I can’t pull up any pages in the admin area and keep getting the following error message:

“The page isn’t redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.”

I went into the wp-plugins folder and manually deleted the plugin, which didn’t change anything. Then I replaced the .htaccess file with a backup copy, but still can’t access the admin area. I’m not really a tech person so I have no idea what happened or what to do.

    Hi,

You can’t delete Really Simple SSL by removing the plugin folder, because to move to SSL, the siteurl and .htaccess are changed. You need to run the deactivation script: https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/uninstall-websitebackend-not-accessible/

You can also deactivate manually, but that is a bit more technical: https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/when-the-built-in-deactivation-does-not-work-manual-uninstalling/

As to the cause of your problem: if you have redirect loops, it’s best to work through these steps to track down the cause: https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/my-website-is-in-a-redirect-loop/

Let me know if you run into any problems with this.

    Rogier
