The WordPress plugin "Media Library from FTP" allows users to register media files that have been uploaded via FTP, create thumbnails, and metadata. It also allows users to change date/time and export logs to CSV. The plugin can register a large number of files without timeout work with Ajax. The plugin creator made it to solve the problem of not being able to upload large files in the media uploader. A live demo is available, and there are sibling plugins available.
